Windows Live Mail Beta

by Vijay Kiran

I got an invitation for Windows Live Mail beta. Here’s what Its looking like:

LiveMail is similar to Outlook Web Access. But with limited functionality.

This is what LiveMail claims to have
• Speed, Speed, Speed. Built on new technology that makes navigating your e-mail much faster
• Easy Inbox Management. Includes drag & drop, plus message previews with reading pane
• Info Bar. A new weapon to help zap junk and “phishing” e-mail
• Expanded storage. Extra space for all your stuff with 2GB of storage

I want to try it and provide my suggestions to the system.

    Yeah,

I was trying to use Google Hosted Mail, even tried Windows Hosted mail. But I then switched back to my own server. But right now I just use forward to my gmail account, which works fine for me :-) And my bandwidth usage is not much, so no worries at least for now.

    Accessing Phone book using J2ME

If you are using MIDP 1.0 you cannot access phone’s address book. The only option is to use Symbian SDK (if you are developing for the same). Since the MIDlets run in “sandboxed” env. you cannot access the phone’s resources.

Yeah JSR 75 (PIM) talks about the ‘optional’ extensions to MIDP 2.0. But its not yet widely implemented in many models. For a list of phones and corresponding API support see this link.

See the Nokia forum for a list of Nokia phones that support the same.
