Cycling days are back again

Update: I see that there’s a lot of interest for cycling in Bangalore, How about a small meeting with fellow bikers and small early morning ride, what do you guys say ?

OctaneLast saturday I bought a brand new Hero Octane bicycle. So finally, I'm going to work on my bicycle. The bike is an Aluminium Alloy, 21-gear, Tig-Welded wonder. It has Shimano RevoShift gears, with dual discbrakes.The perfect bike for cycling. And it has all the features and costs just 8K. Initially I went to the commercial street (bangalore) to inquire about the price and availability of the bike. But in one shop I was told that the price was 13K. And then I went to A.S.Chari Street, there the price of the bike was just 7750/- (without taxes). Obviously, I purchased from the dealer at A.S.Chari street. And finally, the cycling days are back again.

Update:

When I bought Octane there was only the Octane 26T model .. now I see that there are two new models .. Octane DTB1 and Octane DTB2.

    Can you guide me on how to reach the A S Charri street shop?
    I’m rather new to Bangalore.

    I am also interested in getting the Octane & last week I visited the shops in commercial street where the prices quoted were in the range of 12k. But finally one guy, after a little bargaining, agreed to let me that at 8.5K inclusive of all taxes..

    And I’ll also like to know ur experience with Octane so far. I’ve never uses a geared cycle before..hope it’ll be worth the price!

    The Octane has three variants. The best of these has disk brakes, suspension and QuickRelease for wheels as well as seat. See details on the Hero website.

    Hi, That’s indeed a good looking bike. I was wavering between the Octane and FF Viper but settled for the latter.
    No regrets though. Both seem to be equally good…

    Hi Javed, No problems as such, the most annoying thing I experienced is that the seat is not fixed properly, and I lost one of the bolt of the rear disc brake, and I cannot find the replacement, may be I need to goto the Hero cycle shop. As far as the suspension is concerned, I'm pretty okay Smile

    Hi,
    I purchased hero Octane DTB1 in october 2006, the cycle is a good value for ur money (5250/- Goa). this model has R anf F suspension, no disc brakes and no frills (carrier, mudguards etc.). Its really a good dirt bike. Have alook at the photo of the cycle on my blog mtmyndd.blogspot.com

    Dear anyone free,
    I want to buy a reall good bike that’s made for wheelies and stoppies, and must have disk brakes. i can spend till 8k only, and the firefox is of whooping 14k ! i live in chandigarh nad if i buy the octane, wouldnt its quality be kind of low? i mean as compared to the foreign ones, like, firefox? my max budget is 8k and i would only need it for a maximum of one year (after that kinetec!)
    plz help me fellows indians.

    I got Octane DTB-2 for 5000 Rs in Hyderabad (Including mudguards).
    Try to get it from authorized Hero cycles dealer, you will get best buy price there.

    Nice bike, a real value for money

    Hi, hawk nuage is great bike for city riding and occasional trips!
    I have 5 gear (non factory) total cost 3200. Lightweight and fast ;)
    I dont like all those 15 gears when u can drive only in 2-3 only while in city. Good for mountains those gears in city u dont need them. cheers!

    I just want you to sum up your experience with the Hero Octane you purchased recently. I’d been to Comml. St. yesterday and was quoted 13K by one dealer and the last shop I visited quoted 8.5K. I had also visited the Firefox outlet in CMH Road to pickup a dream BMX bike but was disappointed since I feel these bikes aren’t made for Indian conditions sans mudguard, flimsy handle grips etc.,

    Kindly let me know from which shop in AS Char Street you picked the bike from. Also curious to know you experience with the bike, faults if any especially with the gears, quality of ride, etc.

    This morning I had a look at this bike at one of the shops at Santacruz Mumbai. The price quoted to me was 14k. The model i am referring to is Octane 26T (from the Hero Cycles Website). Also note there are two other models from the Octane Series which are much cheaper

    If you can help me with the shop details at AS Chari Street in Bangalore, would appreciate buddy

    I just ordered one Octane 26 DTB 2 for me today and I am happy about it. Just few things I want to add –

    There are two major models for Hero Octane DTB, which u can find on – http://www.herocycles.com/whatnew.html

    Prizes may very on every store. You might get shocked that I ordered my bike for just 5500 Rs. And the other model is available for just 6000 in pune…. So guys be careful and call to Hero cycles headquarter for any query…..

    I went to Firefox store as well … no doubts the bikes are Sexy, but i don’t think it’s a wise decision to pay extra money just for Sex appeal of that bike ;) … hero can give you more features in the lesser amount and you can get it repaired any Where in India.

    Finally I managed to crack the deal with a dealer at Lokhandwala Andheri/Mumbai for 8.5k for Octane 26T. I worked my channels thru Kalbadevi Wholesale dealers to find this guy at Andheri

    You need to goto City Market and AS. Char Street is just 10 minutes walk from that location.

    The suspension (esp front) is very good and the disc brakes are very effective. I really loved it :) I used swing 18Gears bicycle during my engineering, and Octane’s suspension is way better than the same.

    Currently I don’t know any group or something, but If you plan for a trip, I’d like to give company :-)

    I am planning to buy an Octane 26T. I went to a shop in Shivaji Nagar. He is quoting the price as 8500. I stay in Rajaji Nagar my office is in Frazer Town and I am new in Bangalore. Can you give me direction to go to A. S. Chari Street.

    Also i checked out Thunder in the same shop. Is it an awesome bike. Extremely light. 21 Gears. But the downside is it doesnt have suspension anb disk brakes also the price is slightly high 6k considering for just 2.5k more you get disk brakes and full suspension.

    Now that you must have used your Octane for full two months, what is your opinion about the bike. Is it worth buying?? Also how are the disc brakes??? Effective??

    I am a cycling enthusiast and always wanted to do a long trip somewhere but dont have company. Do you know anyone or any group in Bangalore who are invoved in long distance cycling etc.??

    Hi Raghu,

    No need to get confused between Hero & FFX. FFX uses latast components than any other Indian Co. U can go for FFX Bike for you. FFX Target is a good bike in all aspect.

    I am from mumbai I am planning to buy a bike . Initially I thought of buying a folding bike light wt. Since it can be folded you can carry it in train or even bus . Can anyone comment if I should buy a folding bike or a normal size bike.
    Iam not sure about the durability of folding bike
    Some people say a geared bike is not very useful & requires a lot of maintainence, does a geared bike really help in speed? Please reply.

    also due to its look and accessories, do u think that its ok to park or lock anywhere in city safely?

    Don’t buy an MTB or ATB if you plan to use it in CITY. Buy a good road bike. Thunder Racer(Hero cycle) is a road bike and Thunder MTB, Octane(Hero cycle) are MTBs. Difference is tyre size, 29 vs 26in. Hope this helps.

    Hi Everyone, i want to know the price of THUNDER RACER(HERO) and HAWK NU AGE CYCLES.

    hey Aldrin, i just bought a thunder racer today – second hand for Rs 3000… had gone checking out shops yesterday and noone had either the hawk nu-age (with gears) nor the thunder racer in stock… to order and receive them would take another 15-20 days they said… so i bought it from a guy, ‘arvind’ who was selling his… prices are hero hawk nu-age Rs 3500 (10 gear, factory fitted) and thunder racer Rs 6200 (6 gear, factory fitted) but according to some shops production has stopped. others say that it will take atleast a month to bring down.

    and yeah theyre excelent for city roads – the aluminium frame of the thunder racer really makes a difference. i suggest u get yourself a used one if you find it… best of luck :-)

    Hi,
    I bought an Octane 26T cycle last week. I must say that the bike is good. Initially, the brakes had a problem, but that was mainly due to the improper fitting by the mechanic. Once I readjusted it, it works wonders. The bike is fun to ride. Also, the carrier is very useful when you have to carry along something on the trip. Just want to say one thing: when you buy this bike, be suer that the brakes are adjusted properly or you will not be able to enjoy the disc brakes !
