Play!ground at Lunatech

by Vijay Kiran

Last Friday we at Lunatech hosted first ever Play!ground in the Netherlands.

We had some great talks lined up with Peter Hilton(@peterhilton) and Nicolas Leroux(@nicolasleroux) explaining introduction to Play!. They also demonstrated via live coding how easy it is to build a Play! application that uses advanced features such as Websockets.

Erik Bakker(@eamelink), who is one of my colleagues, gave a short talk about status of Play Scala module, Scala templates and Anorm.

Arne van den Ing from Connexys gave a talk about how they migrated a big application from ADF to Play!. This is more of a where-rubber-meets-the-road kind of talk. Arne compared their experience and problems they faced with ADF and how Play! framework helped them build the application quickly and effectively.

The event was jam packed, and unfortunately due to space constraints we only accepted 30 people to the event. But the crowd was extremely enthusiastic about the framework and we plan to host more Play! ground events in the near future.

I recorded the video of the talks and currently processing them. So keep an eye out for them – we’ll post them online soon.
